China’s E-Government Ranking Rises to 43rd in the World

According to the Xinhua News Agency on Dec. 28, the 2022 United Nations E-Government Survey Report (Chinese Version) was released at the Party School of the Central Committee of C.P.C (National Academy of Governance). According to the report, China's e-government ranking rises from 78th in 2012 to 43rd in 2022 among 193 United Nations Member States, becoming one of the countries with the largest growth in the world.

The report introduces the e-government ranking of 193 United Nations Member States and the four subgroups of these countries at the level of the e-government development index (EDGI) (very high, high, medium and low). The global average of EDGI in 2022 is 0.6102. Chinas EDGI value is 0.8119, which is "very high".

As a comprehensive index, EGDI is calculated by the weighted average of three standardized indexes, namely the Telecommunications Infrastructure Index (TII), Human Capital Index (HCI) and Online Service Index (OSI). In 2022, Chinas online service index is 0.8876, which is "very high" and continues to maintain the global leading level.

Wang Qinmin, director of the National E-government Expert Committee, said that Chinas E-government ranking has continued to rise and entered the first echelon in the world. Chinas E-government development has gradually moved from "catcher" to "leader". The national integrated government affairs service platform with the national government affairs service platform as the main hub has been initially completed, and the online handling of service matters has become the main way of government affairs service, effectively solving the problems of difficult, slow and complicated handling of affairs for the masses and enterprises.

The United Nations e-government survey report is the only report in the world that evaluates the development of e-government in all United Nations Member States. The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs has issued the report continuously since 2001 and biennially in recent years. Since 2012, the E-Government Research Center of the Party School of the Central Committee of C.P.C (National Academy of Governance) and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs have jointly released the United Nations E-Government Survey Report (Chinese version).
